Sydney's best

If you were going to describe the best that Sydney has to offer, where would you start? We'd be sure to mention the harbour, the beaches, the icons, the weather and the friendly people (of course!) but what do you think? The harbour itself has dozens of special spots, there are so many beaches and the weather varies.... and just what would be the top 10 Sydney features?

Tell us about your favourite piece of Sydney. Is Bondi beach better than Manly beach? Did Sydney live up to your expectations? Where the people as friendly as everyone makes out? Did the Opera House do it for you? Or did you find your own favourite place in the Sydney landscape?

Sydney tips

* The Strand arcade is a little-known shopping gem in the heart of the city. Check it out - it's home to many newly-acknowledged top Sydney designers who started their careers at Paddington markets, plus also one of the oldest coffee shops in Sydney, great jewellery etc. The Strand Arcade is between Pitt St and George St in the Pitt Street Mall.

* Visiting Bondi Beach? There's more to it than just one protected bay - make sure you wander along the footpath on the south side of the beach (to the right when facing the water). The views along this walkway are spectacular and also take you to some other beaches that the locals would argue are better than Bondi!

* Sometimes the best things in life are almost-free! The public access ferry to Manly beach is one of the best cruises on the harbour available. Get your ticket on the day from the wharves at Circular Quay.

* If you're planning to do a lot of Sydney sightseeing in one day, you can buy a DayTripper travel pass from Sydney's Buses, and the Ferries and Train Stations. It gives you unlimited travel to 4am and discount access to attractions for $15.40 per adult.

We've loads of Sydney tips (as you'd know from coming along on one of our walks) but we don't often get to meet you again to hear if they rang true and how the rest of your trip went. Please comment here to stay in touch - did we give you a great piece of advice, save you some time/money, find you that special shop or sight while you were here? And do you have some new tips to share?

Oh, maybe you're after a tip - publish a request if there's something you'd like to know about Sydney.

Press feedback on our tours

Our Sydney walking tours have featured in newspapers, blogs and magazines across the world. Here's a sample of what our critics have said about our tours:

Crimes & Passions Walking Tour
“…it is the first regular walking tour of the Cross and is both informative and entertaining. It’s perfect for all ages and fitness levels…” Daily Telegraph.

“Just below the surface, behind a few doors in Sydney’s infamous Kings Cross, are stories of life that would shock or enthrall every visitor. But to find these hidden treasures one must take a tour hosted by experts in the area. Bounce Tours has created a tour that exposes the reality of this colourful, bohemian, artistic yet sometimes tragic neighbourhood….” Sun-Herald.

“What better way to see this unique part of Sydney than on foot with a walk on the wild side?... The tour tells stories of love, murder, drugs and sex, but also included is the area’s artistic and architectural past.” Brisbane Times.

“Bounce dished out more than enough ‘dirt’ to fascinate both visitor and Sydneysider alike. Some of the city’s most infamous murders, court cases, mysterious disappearances, shootings and stabbings, even a minor riot, all took place within the Cross area and there are abundant “X marks the spot” locations….” Sydney Morning Herald.

“… there’s much more to Kings Cross that even Sydneysiders don’t know about and for visitors who are a little hesitant to venture into the area, a Bounce ‘Crimes & Passions Walking Tour’ is a great introduction… Knowledgable, bubbly guides take you near the sites of many fascinating gory events, important milestones, crimes and love stories and fill you in on the Kings Cross ‘goss’.” Get Up and Go Magazine.

“The tour is perfect for all those intrigued by the colourful history of the Cross…” My NRMA.

“For all it’s funky new bars, it’d be a crime not to take this walk on the wilder side of Kings Cross.” Adelaide Advertiser.
